Healing Through Grief: Iyanla Vanzant's Powerful Message for Black Americans

Iyanla Vanzant says ‘grief’ is what Black folks need In a world where pain and trauma often go unaddressed, spiritual leader and media personality Iyanla Vanzant is on a mission to help Black Americans confront their grief and find healing. During a recent sit-down with CNN's Abby Phillips at the 30th American Black Film Festival in Miami, Vanzant shared her profound insights on the importance of grieving as a path to authenticity and purpose.

The Power of Grief
Vanzant believes that grief is an essential part of the healing process, allowing individuals to let go of past traumas and find closure. She emphasizes that it's not just about mourning losses, but also about grieving the dreams that never came true and the ways of being that no longer serve us. By confronting our pain head-on, we can break free from the cycle of unresolved grief and move towards a more authentic life.

The Weight of Inherited Trauma
Vanzant notes that Black Americans have been conditioned to survive pain rather than fully process it. This inherited trauma has led to a collective discordant energy, causing us to divide ourselves and our attention into categories like men, women, white, Black, gay, straight. She encourages us to look beyond these labels and focus on the living people who are struggling to find their purpose.

The Example of Great Leaders
Vanzant cites the examples of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and other great leaders who have shaped our culture by confronting their own grief. She believes that these individuals were able to tap into their purpose because they were clean on the inside, having done the necessary work to heal and let go of their pain.

A Call to Action
Vanzant's message is clear: we must do our own healing work if we want to find our purpose and live an authentic life. She encourages us to pick up the phone, say 'Hey, Miss O,' and ask for help when needed. By doing so, we'll attract people who share our vibrational frequency and support our journey towards wholeness.

Iyanla Vanzant's powerful message is a reminder that healing through grief is not just possible but necessary for Black Americans to find their purpose and live an authentic life. By confronting our pain, letting go of unresolved trauma, and focusing on the living people who are struggling, we can break free from the cycle of discordant energy and move towards a more harmonious and whole existence.
